What I usually do if I have to use another one's RP information, is to
simply have the character hear rumors. Unless it is a more specific
situation in which I need to make something else out, it works fine.
Nobility has always been a fountain of gossip, even that the way it
got to your ears is peasantry: your maid went buying fish, the
fisherman told her his cousin saw noble XXX doing something somewhere.
The maid comes home, tells your page, or something, and the page tells
you. :) Or your soldiers hear the story from peasants in the street
and tell you. Anyway, most cases, if you don't need quite specific
information, "rumors" will do.
As for the rest, I'm glad Tom agrees Roleplay messages should be for
described actions. As for knowledge, it is easier if private is
specified private.
I don't know how to walk around the "HarHarHar" stuff. As it is
unlikely people would write that, it would also be too much trouble if
people had to write much more to increase character identification
traits within messages. I actually prefer reading HarHarHar in a
message and picture the guy laughing after closing the letter, than
have loads of brownish messages to read. I like the feeling of "oh,
special" when I get a Roleplay message.
