You misunderstand.  We don't *want* to destroy the realm: we just  
want to take some regions.  *They* are the ones making it a war to  
the death.  If there were no claims, we'd just keep trying for peace  
while defending the lands we've taken, and if they won't accept  
peace, then we'll just let the official status of war stay there  
until they get bored banging their heads against a wall.

Now this I wholeheartedly agree with.  Especially with the duchy  
becoming more of a focal point, and trying to do away with  
nationalism (to some degree), having realms be more transient  
entities would definitely go a long way toward making the game more  
fluid and fun.
