I'm on your side here. I've played my adventurer as not knowing who
her father was (it is one of my other characters). I've had people
speak to me as if I did and asking about my other characters. It's
enough to send them an OOC message to give a background and that
solves it, but that problem would go away (for those of us that play
that way) if they couldn't see the character's family.

The first question is legitimate, though I am sure you can come up
with plenty of reasons if you really wanted to. The adventurer
telling you a tale and giving you a magical artifact could change a
lot of people's minds. But I am always surprised that more Nobles
don't just cheat the person out of the recommendation.
As to your second question, because it is a note from a Nobleman.
Just because the Nobleman does not share your King/Ruler does not make
him not a Noble. It is a matter of Blood.
