A warning message two weeks before the change, a warning message one
week before the change and a warning message the day before the
change.  People have no excuse.

Personally, I'd be inclined to include a line in the warning saying
"The change over may well cause problems and upsets.  If this scares
you, pause your characters and come back in a month, everything should
have settled down by then'.
