[Discuss] 3 recommendations, 4 noble characters already... Problem?

One of my characters, Escent, will soon have his fourth recommendation
(lost one to a bug) and he is thinking the life of a knight sounds nice.
However, before I run afoul of another bug I thought I'd check on a
concern. 

After you have the three recommendations for your adventurer, can you
become a knight without deleting one of your other characters if you've
donated and already have four guys?  Also, how many people have made the
move from Adventure to Knight already?
