But would you leave that 4K force, probably archer-heavy after a battle 
since as said before the infantry and cavalry would be the ones needing to 
refit, unsupported? Sounds like a great opportunity for the enemy to snap 
them up. So you would have to keep them with the infantry, who would be 
refitting, and thus everyone should be going back to refit. And this works 
if the realm had multiple combined-arms armies in a battle as whichever army 
least needed to refit could remain in the field and still present a balanced 
fighting force towards the enemy.
