No, I wouldn't leave archer son their own in the field, I'd leave them with 
inf. Which I can't do, unelss there's separate armies for cavalry, infantry 
and archers, which is what I could see working for larger realms, but not 
smaller ones.

If I have a 12K army left after a battle and 8K of that needs to refit, I'd 
still leave the 4K to hold the field usually. Can't do that now, and I don't 
see why not. As Samuel said, most people will probably just refrain from 
using marshal settings at all.
