I only have an adventurer on the test Islands so I can't say for certain
the positives or negatives surrounding delayed scouts. I just hack up
monsters and gather items all the live long day. If I am way off base
then correct me or disregard.
First, I am guessing that this idea was implemented to try and diminish
the "power gamers" out there that are in it to win it. I don't really
see this working for that. You can always use an infiltrator planted in
the region to tell you in real time what the enemy is doing. This is
not without it's pitfalls as the enemy can have their own infil in the
region to snuff them out, but a team of them would be hard to stop.
Then of course there are the planted spies. I have yet to see a spy
that wasn't an obvious OOC abuse. That noble that creates a character
right before or right after the start of the conflict and only sits in
the capital, yet never seems to auto-pause and Judges are powerless to
punish...but I digress. I foresee more of this happening with delayed
scout reports.
On the other hand, I can see a few positives in Gameplay too. It would
make each impending (or missed) battle a bit more exciting...will we
win? Pray to the Gods? Smile on my blade...all sorts of interesting RP
ideas. I also think it would be funny to see two armies march right
past each other and suddenly have each of them in the others land with
nothing to stop them from hitting the capital...do we sprint for their
Palace or retreat back to defend ours? There is also the fact that it
will become important for your realm to have infils, and well trained
ones at that. It might add a little more dignity to the position that
can be widely looked down upon. I am sure there are others, but I don't
want to be too long winded.
I guess the question that really needs to be answered is why is this
idea being implemented? To stop power gamers or to change game play in
general?
