Is there some reason why the first response of a couple people whenever just
about anything halfway convenient is suggested is to take a hard line stance
of 'that's not how it's supposed to be!!!!!' when the point of the feature
is to make the game easier for players to play?
It adds absolutely no 'advantage' to me, as General, to be able to
communicate directly with an army. I can already do that. I can select the
nobles in the army, I can make a list, whatever. Or I can blast the orders
to everyone. Being able to communicate directly with armies is a simple
convenience that reinforces rather than damages the army system.
If a General doesn't want to rely on the army system as it was intended to
be used, he'll just have one army for the whole realm and put everyone in it
and make himself Marshal. I've seen this done plenty of times. I don't think
that's any fun, so we've got a couple armies and a couple marshals.
I know I can send the orders to everyone and I know I can appoint a second
in command. Those are workarounds. My feature request is 'can I please have
all armies in my message group lists so that I can share the OOC load with
my marshals and thus be as lenient as possible about who needs to be on when
to give orders.'
Particularly, I think your response, Timothy, of:
>> Why is the General trying to get a direct, immediate order to a
particular army?
Is either so idealistic vis. a vis 'this is how I think Tom wants it' or
else so out of touch with how the game is actually played as to be
irrelevant. I am trying to make it easier, not harder, for the General to
share the load. If I have to go out of my way to contact the people who need
to be contacted, I'm just going to deliver orders myself to the realm at
large and the Marshal's job will be 'update your standing orders.'
This is a user interface question and not a game design question.
