Tom's frequent statements about the importance of heredity ought to  
invalidate the whole idea of electing--or, indeed, appointing--a  
lord, rather than letting the next of kin have the title.

It's been said several times in recent threads: heredity is obviously  
the realistic way to go, but it really messes with the gameplay  
balance we need to keep BattleMaster from being a two-tiered game,  
with the elites keeping power in their families forever, and the  
plebs never getting any except through rebellion.
