That's why I said "what *turns out to be* forgery".

1) My characters know it's an option, because they've had people tell  
them they could do it
2) My characters have never seen the brother of a killed/deported/ 
stepped down/etc region lord *inherit* the position
3) Every case of such that they've seen has later been found, by one  
method or another, to be forgery--often simply because the character  
doing it admits it, knowing that there's no point in denying it  
because everyone *knows* that there's no other way

Now, if you want to claim, "Well, that's a circular argument,"  
there's some truth to that.  But the fact remains that it *has*  
always turned out to be forgery.  Because, in-game, there *is* no  
other way.
