Yes, it is about separating from our characters. The point is that
whether we can spot them as forgeries or not, we will know that the
person was not appointed by the Ruler or relevant Duke. Giving that,
and after asking around, everyone will tell you the same thing, that
there is only one possible way to obtain the title to a region besides
being appointed. Our characters aren't idiots. Unless there is some
possible way to get a region other than being appointed or buying the
title, how exactly are our characters supposed to just roll over and say
that everything is fine? My characters believe what they are told by
certain members of the realm. And when my mentor informs me that the
only way to get a region other than being appointed is by buying the
title, my character believes said mentor. So if someone were to obtain
the title without being appointed, my character is going to assume that
the person bought the title. How is this not roleplaying?
