Did it become "not just for fun" within the past few weeks?  Because
drops of thousands of believers was not something that used to happen.
 But it is now happening all of a sudden across the board for a lot of
religions.

The way you stated your reply seems to imply that it is just common
sense.  But, if it were common sense then it should have always been
like that.  We are attempting to determine what changed in the past
few weeks.
