I suppose I'll be the first to step up and say that I don't care for this idea.
Each class in BattleMaster gives advantages and disadvantages. The
disadvantages of the Mentor class are that you have to spend time teaching
new people how to play the game, and that you also don't get any of the
special abilities that other non-Knight classes get. This is balanced by the gain
of Mentor Points you can use to gain prestige, fame, gold, etc.
If we let anyone become a mentor, then we are adding extra benefits to all
classes, with no added restrictions.
The result would be that you will probably get a LOT of available mentors in a
realm. Rather than picking from two or three mentors, you'll have new players
picking from 30 or 40 mentors. A profusion of choices is not necessarily a good
thing.
This will also serve to dilute the available pool of mentor points. With so many
available mentors for the same number of students, it will take a much longer
time for the mentors to amass mentor points.
