I knew people would say "oh they can just join their old realm again,
nothings changed".
Yes it has, you aren't getting the point. The pride of upholding that
oath has been canceled out as nobles are automatically dragged into it.
The surprise and fun of the unknowing has also been taken out of it. The
duke as well as the realm automatically know what regions and nobles
will be part of the rebellion(yes yes yes they can still switch back to
their old realm you've already said that). The duke knows that he's
getting exactly X number of regions to follow him, taking out the stress
and excitement as a lord upholds his oath and joins his liege(The
rebellious duke paces nervously back and forth in his chambers every
once in a while glancing out the window to the west. A messenger runs
breathlessly into the chambers. "Well out with it already"-the Duke
exclaims. "My Duke...the lords X and X, their armies march my lord." "To
where?" "Here my lord, they are with us". A smile crosses the lips of
the Duke...) The fun of the tense few turns as a few of the lords are
quiet and everyone is wondering what they are going to do. Also taking
out the surprised anger from the old realm as another region joins the
rebellion.
You are missing the point, you are taking the FUN out of joining the
rebellion and upholding the oath. Joining a rebellion is much more of
and exciting choice moved along by characters personalities than the "
ho hum" I'm just gonna return to my old realm". Nobles should be able to
have the chance to uphold their oath on their own. Like I said of course
I believe that the choice SHOULD be with the duke that their oath was
sworn to...then again the duke did not uphold his oath to the realm.
Shouldn't other landed nobles be given that option and the fun of having
to choose?
