Threatening politely works all the time.  Also, a respected Lord with many
loyal knights is not one to be trifled with, what with protests and
rebellion being weapons of the nobles.  And what a King does to one Lord, he
certainly can do to another, so the other Lords may take offense.  It's all
part of the game, but there are no absolutes.  You hear about the bannings,
but you never hear about the times when a leader backs down.
