Perhaps another possibility could be that if an adventurer has over xxx gold, they can send it home to their family, and that may help increase their honour occasionally... Wouldn't get them any closer to knighthood, but could help raise their honour a bit, and gives a use to the adventurer getting larger quantities of gold...
