As far as intercontinental religions: You don't need Tom's support to do this, if
all you want is for the heads of the religion to communicate. Use e-mail, or IRC,
or MSN, or... Take a page from the donut people's book (The Order of the
Donut guild) and just do it. You don't need a game-mecanic for that.
As far as merging/splitting... Again, you can do all of this yourself, with a bit of
cooperation. We recently had schism in a religion on BT. One of the elders
decided that the founder had lost his way, and decided to form a new religion
based on what he considers the true principles. I don't personally think that one
will go very far, though. There just weren't enough people in the system to
begin with.
