I just wanted to add a quick note on the idea of
historically accurate religion in BM....
If BM is a pseudo medieval european scenario, maybe
the idea of magical powers shouldnt be the way to go;
throughout the exapansion of religions in medieval
(and before) times, a lot of religious 'conflict'
revolved around consolodating simliar aspect based
dieties into homogenized uber religions; christians
adopted pagan beliefs which in turn had adopted
egyptian mysticism beliefs which in turn had their
astronomical worship basis and gnostic mystsicms (at
varying times; I don't want to squabble over petty
historical points and miss the bigger picture).
Maybe instead of going for the 'my 45th lvl wizard in
the sky can beat your 45th level wizard in the sky' a
more accurate, and intriguing idea might be the idea
of multi continent expansion... crusade even... and
assimiliation movements; uber religions absorbing
aspects of defeated religions and cultures and
consolodating into a smaller and smaller but vastly
more powerful and more reolplayable pools of extremely
vicious religious hierarchies. Centered around dieties
that came to represent superiority over all the
followers of dieties that had fallen before their
armies.
This is just a suggestion, and i'm only stating it to
add a new perspective to the role of religion in BM;
what about cross continental drives, crusades even, to
find religions that are so simliar they could easily
integrate each other and harken a totally new aspect
of the game for players.
Imagine how easily a powerful and charismatic leader
could eloquently and swayfully persuade that the God
of War in Sartania and the war God of Toren is the
exact same god, his name spoken only through a
separate language but so many aspects the same that a
an emnergent holy crusade spanning multiple continents
breaks forth, in order to crush the 'obviously false'
pretender dieties, who should be shown to be
heathenistic and weak by the obvious signs that any
who oppose the holy crusade is utterly crushed; given
the chance to convert or be put to the burning stake.
A wildfire spread of fanatical crusading to cleanse
the heathens no matter what continent the next war be
taken to.
This is far more accurate to what actually happened in
the medieval ages; the rallying cry of Roman victory
in battle even before those ages was simply; we met on
the fields of battle; had your Gods been the superior
and the true ones, you would have won the day. You did
not, proving our Gods to be the true Gods. Now accept
our institutons, or live as slaves- or worse.
Obviously this would be a massive change to every
aspect of BM, but for historical accuracy, this is
essentially how it was done; your armies won the day
because your Gods were the true Gods, and the
vanquished were vanquished simply because their gods
were weaker and not the rightful rulers of the
heavens.
I know this is a radical and extrenely game changing
concpet for BM; I'm only reiteraing the collosal shift
in the very way the game would be viewed in light of
the myriad variant religions being united under their
similarities as the same few Gods, each battling not
for a realm, but for the entirety of the BM universe.
I'm not even sure I'm advocating implementing
something this drastic- I'm saying that in the dark
ages, and the ages before, this is how religious
expansion worked- including and consolodating
religious forces to understand they are brethrehn
under one multinamed God, a god who wages war for the
entirety of human domination. And any who oppose are
heahens worshipping false idols who must be converted
or destroyed. That, would be far more historically
siiliar than giving deities superpowers.
Maybe one day if there were ever a 'reset', but whatI
have described here is farmore accurate to reality
compared to what I've been reading what others are
insinuating about religious affairs in BM. I know it
wont happen, but what a glorious and vicious war it
would be.
And if you ever thought role playing priest was
boring; imagine the massive impact such an idea would
have; the pantheon of mislabelled separate Gods
realized to be only a very few, and that the holy war
they wage knows no boundaries or countries; only total
domination of any who oppose them. The priests on the
forefront of spiritually guiding the holy armies
forward to purge the lands.
I cant even imagine how it coud be implicated, but the
sheer vicious intensity would turn BM into an epic
armageddon of crusades on every land.
At any rate, I think that would be your historical
accuracy, would add an insane amount of conflict and
suspense, and I for one haven't got the slightest clue
how it could be implemented; a war across all islands
for the supremacy of the few true gods.

Some people go through life without ever regretting a thing.
I regret everything.... and I'd do it all again.
