Well, this topic could easily open up a can of worms, but I'll try and be
brief.
Roleplaying isn't strictly enforced on the FEI, people won't expect you to
post your characters daily thoughts. (Maybe it was stricter when it began,
but I'll discuss now).
So long as your character has a good background and motives, and you discuss
matters in character when you do write letters, and your character's names,
and his units names, are reasonable, you'll probably do fine.
For example, writing a letter that says 'i need a liege can somebody give me
an offer?' is not very in character. Instead you should write "Hear ye,
Hear ye, most august Lords of Keplerstan. I, Sir Bob, am willing to defend
a region in exchange for a piece of land and a modest income, I will be
pleased to visit any interested parties in person for a knighting ceremony."
As for the realms, why don't you describe what you're looking for, it might
be easier for folks to compare that way, than trying to describe each one.
