It could be interesting if the recruits or peasants responded to a  
new lord/duke tearing down stuff that's been there a while -- of  
course proportional to how long the center has been there, or perhaps  
how long the region ruler has been in power.

Similar could be done with temples where most of the region's  
population are followers.
