I think a mixture of both is good.  There is times I find dry spells
gathering and I will hunt and other times that I find dry spells hunting
so I gather.  In the end you will need to hunt in order to get the
honour/prestige requirement.

Ah, very good point, James!  As a side note, the hunting will also do
wonders for your sword fighting skills.  I ran over to the training
academy and had 45% on my adventurer.
