1) No one knows everything for certain except for Tom. In fact, I
would go so far as to say no one knows *most* things for certain
except for Tom. A lot of research has gone into some of the stuff on
the Wiki, but things change fast enough that you can't always be sure
it's right. So the odds are that someone stating authoritatively,
"This is the way it is!" is wrong.

2) With regard to digging in, my experience has shown it to have an
effect less than a palisade, but significantly more than 0.1%. Like
Thomas Dalton says, that's such a tiny effect you'd never be able to
detect it. I would guess it's more like 1/4 to 1/2 a palisade.

3) My experience with paraphernalia such as banners, that has to be
carried by men in your unit, is that it doesn't seem to affect the
number of men who fight in your unit. All it means is that if you
don't have enough men *left* in your unit, those items will be
dropped. (But, like I said above, I don't *know* this for certain--
it just matches with my experience and common sense)

4) With regard to hunting, I have never observed any appreciable
difference in effectiveness with different unit types.

In the end, we *all* have to check our assumptions, and remember that
even if something was definitely true a year ago--or even a week ago,
if Tom has changed the code since then--that doesn't *necessarily*
mean it's true now. I admit to being guilty of this myself, from
time to time--it's only natural to want to defend what we believe to
be true. But the most important thing to remember, in the end, is
that the game mechanics aren't the end-all (and I have to admit to
being guilty of this, too, occasionally). Does it *really* matter if
you can get a 30% chance of increasing your unit's CS by 15% by
digging in, then digging out while hunting? (as a random made-up
example)

In general, I'd say just do what makes sense. Usually, the code will
follow...and if you need to win so badly that you're scrutinizing
every single possible extra point of CS, then you're playing the
wrong game.
