That's similar to what I suggested during the discussion about
transfers within guilds (assuming I did actually send the email, and
didn't just think about it). It should work well.

One extra suggestion: Allow the exchange of gold coins (therefore no
banks involved and no bank charges) between people in the same city
with at least one of them being a member of that city's realm. Any
other region and it's too dangerous to be flashing gold around, but in
a your own city you can find somewhere secure to make the exchange
(maybe someone else can come up with a better IC justification). There
shouldn't be an issue with people fighting long wars away from home as
there is with other gold transfers, and it means people can make large
payments (to build/enlarge guildhouses and temples, war reparations,
etc) without lining the bank manager's pocket with 100s of gold.
