[Discuss] Seccessions

My general rule for secessions would be this:
A secession is something that happens because of serious cultural,
philosophical, or political differences between the Duke and the rest
of the realm. Sometimes, those differences are as simple as, "I want
power!" or, "My realm's getting wiped out, and no one wants to help
me! I'd better take all I can and run, maybe try to cut a deal with
the invaders!" Other times, it's about religion, or some other
disagreement between Duke and Ruler.

But it's not something that's done nicely.

Now, there are certainly situations where the seceding realm will
work together with the parent realm soon after the secession--look at
Irombrozia and Riombara on Beluaterra. They're still fighting
against their common enemy, even though at least part of each realm
hates the other's guts.

In general, if it's roleplayed as being done due to serious
differences between the two parts of the realm, it's going to be OK,
even if they eventually become friends again. However, in almost all
cases, if it's done with the knowledge and/or consent of the ruler,
it's against the rules.

(Disclaimer: the above is my opinion based on a careful reading and
interpretation of Tom's various pronouncements on this subject in the
past)
