[Discuss] I want a council position

I'm not sure if it was my first steps towards council positions, but I
remember how one of my characters started his journey towards the top
(reached General, never quite managed ruler).

He was fairly new to the realm - had maybe been there a few weeks. His
battlegroup went on a mission behind enemy lines and the battlegroup
leader was wounded. No second in command had been appointed, so my
character assumed command (very politely, phrasing it as advice, but
it was obeyed, so he was effectively in command). When the battlegroup
leader recovered, he thanked my character and appointing him
officially 2nd in command. Along with that went a place on the
military council where all the strategy was discussed. Once you're in
such a message group you are interacting with the leaders of the realm
a lot more, and from there it's easy to move up.
