What exactly are we trying to solve with delayed messaging? Tom
mentioned eliminating the need to log in at certain times. There's also
reducing the size of alliance blocks, and making it difficult to wage
war halfway across the continent.
How about making it so that the option to message specific foreign
officials is only available when one is within the recipients realm, or
perhaps within the realm's capital? This would mean that you need a
message-relaying TL in a realm you need to negotiate with or plan with -
a diplomat. To negotiate a treaty, for example, a ruler would send
instructions to his diplomat who would relay it to the foreign ruler.
This would make it hard to have a meaningful alliance with many realms,
because you would need a TL in each realm to maintain contact. This
might reduce the size of alliances. Furthermore, it would be impractical
to have any relations with realms too far away, because the time for a
diplomat to get there would be too long. This does not, however, affect
optimal login times.
