Okay, you CAN seperate knowledge entirely.
The following two situations would excercise and call upon the same
brain functions:
1. I am ruler of Realm X. I learn on IRC that Realm Y will be
attacking region 1 with such and such line settings. Now, I can
seperate that OOC knowledge from my charater's knowledge. In fact, in
the past, I HAVE seperated similar knowledge in a similar situation.
Keeping OOC and IC seperate is not hard, and I dont have multiple
personality disorder(though I do have bipolar). It simply isnt hard.
All you have to do is use a piece of paper, and write down important
things you learned OOC and, when making IC decisions, look at that
list, and simply ROLEPLAY(to yourself, in your mind) "Now how would
my character function NOT knowing these things?" because the
character DOESNT know them. Saying that you cannot seperate
knowledge, and limit circumstantial knowledge in your brain is like
banning RP. ROleplaying is, by definition, assuming a different role,
personality, what have you: becoming a different person with
different knowledge, experience, etc. It REQUIRES the seperation of
IC and OOC, the seperation of knowledge.
2. Now that that is established, lets take the situation we are now
debating: we'll say 2 rulers. Player Bob has a ruler in Realm X and a
Ruler in Realm Y. Realm Y will be attacking Region 1 with such and
such line settings. All you have to do is this: when playing realm X,
treat Realm Y as OOC info, because it IS OOC info. When playing Realm
Y, treat Realm X as OOC info. Its that simple.
Seperation of knowledge is not at all impossible, it isnt even hard.
It takes a tiny, very small bit, of self control. The ability to
control one's own mind, hence, know what parts are known, and which
are not. Heck, when I'm playing my characters, my mind isnt even
thinking about my other chars, even back when I did have them in
different realms on the same continent. My mind was fully focused on
THAT character, and possibly what I was having for lunch. If one is
fully focused on Character X, one will not be using knowledge from
Character Y.
Sorry if this comes across as rude, or angry or something.
