I'd rather have temporary replacements and a small chance of a change in
ruler than no chance at all. That goes double for region lord positions.
There's already very few changes in those positions and this will
effectively make it so that region lord positions change only when
someone goes away for OOC reasons or decides to be nice and give someone
else a go at it. This change is a step back for BM and reduces its
appeal in my opinion(less chances for new players and characters, the
same people hold the power as long as they want. These are all *bad*
things for the game).

In my view, the issue was never about the damage the realm would suffer
from the ruler getting stabbed. It was always about giving new people a
chance and getting the old ruler out of power. That has now been
completely stripped away. Again, a bad thing for the game.

Please do. There really needs to be some way of getting change in power
positions. Screw realism. It doesn't make for interesting game play in
this case. In fact, it sucks for game play in this particular case.

You didn't really give much time to see how the increased penalties for
stepping down would have worked. That change was on the right track in
ensuring some dynamics in position changes, but this one has derailed
the whole concept, which is a shame in my opinion.
