Your travel is not based on a set formula from point A to point B. 
You're moving _through_ regions, each with their own hazards, terrain,
and who knows what else.  If region B is sizeably larger than region
A, I could understand times being longer from B to A than from A to B.

I don't know that it happens often, or at least often enough that it's
noticed, but I'm fairly certain that's the way it works.
